Helping people with support and encouragement
More than 40 programs addressing the disease of addiction
Substance abuse, particularly the deadly opioid epidemic plaguing Pennsylvania, continues to be a challenging problem that Geisinger is fighting in the communities we serve. Because of support from donors like the 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation and others, we have implemented more than 40 programs, like medication-assisted treatment and addiction-trained social workers, to care for those who battle addiction each day.
Additionally, because of philanthropic contributions, the community now has access to certified recovery specialists like Franca Dalibor. She knows what her patients are going through because she went through it herself: she recently celebrated 30 years of sobriety.
“Being able to help people along their journey with support and encouragement is a wonderful thing, and I think my presence reassures them they are not alone. Knowing that I’ve been where they are and managed to maintain long term recovery,” Ms. Dalibor noted, “I think it gives them some hope that real change is possible.”
