A space for renewal, a place for hope

Healing gardens

The transition from winter to spring brings with it reminders of renewal and hope for warmer, brighter days to come. The healing gardens throughout Geisinger’s campuses serve the same purpose, offering places of quiet reflection for patients and visitors to relax, get away from the noises and distractions of the hospital floor, and enjoy peacefulness.

The Alec Ewing Healing Garden at Geisinger Medical Center recently welcomed a beautiful fountain and forest scene mural in memory of Joseph J. Mowad, MD, a long-time Geisinger physician and philanthropist. Thanks to gifts from the Mowad family, as well as colleagues, friends and former patients giving in his honor, patients can now experience a tranquil wood with the sound of a babbling brook flowing in the background.

Healing gardens, supported by generous donor contributions – enhance the hospital experience at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital and Geisinger Wyoming Valley and, coming soon, also at Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center.
